Summary of the Rent Collection Policy

Scope

The policy relates to the collection of the following categories of income and debts:

  •  Rents
  • Occupancy charges
  • Service charges
  • Management fees
  • Factoring fees
  • Insurance premiums
  • Recoverable costs for repairs and maintenance
  • Recovery of legal and administrative costs incurred by Link in the recovery of any of the above debts.

Principles

Our is to offer a fair and consistent approach to all customers who fall into arrears. We are willing to discuss repayment options with customers who are experiencing difficulties. We will be as flexible as possible with customers who are having genuine difficulties in paying their rent or other accounts but we are prepared to take court action to deal with the minority who wilfully refuse to pay.

Practice

We will work with customers to help prevent arrears occurring, help customers who are in arrears to reduce them and make clear what action will be taken with those customers who do not clear their arrears. Our procedures will be designed to detect new arrears or missed payments quickly in order to work with customers before debts reach high levels.

Resources

We will offer debtors the opportunity of referral to Linkwide’s Welfare Rights Service for advice on income maximisation or to external agencies for benefits and budgeting advice.
