I had been working for a local authority for 28 years before starting my current job. Coming to Link was a breath of fresh air. I would describe my department as being like a family business in the sense that everyone pulls together and if a problem comes up, instead of saying, "that's not my job" everyone will chip in until it's sorted.
My manager gives me just the right level of support - advice and help when I need it but allowing me the space to make decisions in my day-to-day work. She and all the rest of my colleagues are great - not just about work issues but with other things too, like when my mum passed away. Everyone was so supportive and I know they really cared about my wellbeing.
Coming to Link was a breath of fresh air!
I've also been really impressed with the way Link does a lot to help staff live a healthy lifestyle, by holding health days and giving free health checks and so on.
Every day is different for me. I am out and about most of the time on Link's estates, carrying out repairs in tenants' homes, overseeing maintenance projects and inspecting the condition of Link's properties. I meet all sorts of different people - I'm a good communicator so I really enjoy that part of the job.
Another great thing about Link is that I've now got a new social circle - a crowd of us have started a hillwalking club. I also somehow managed to get myself roped into singing at a "Stars in their Eyes" night - but I suppose every job has some drawbacks!
