Published on November 10 2011
Volunteers from LinkLiving, part of the Link Group, gathered on Monday 7 November to be presented with the Investing in Volunteers award, recognising the support the organisation provides to its volunteers.
LinkLiving works to make a positive difference to the lives of people affected by social exclusion including homelessness, mental health issues and learning disabilities.
LinkLiving has over 100 volunteers who help in each of the services - SmartLiving, RealLiving, StartLiving and the Fife gardening service – who work hard not only change their own lives but help change the lives of others.
The Investing in Volunteers standard, is managed in Scotland by Volunteer Development Scotland, and demonstrates that LinkLiving is committed to its volunteers and to the highest organisational standards of volunteering.
George Thomson the Chief Executive of Volunteer Development Scotland presented the award to Eddie Banks, LinkLiving Chair, he said: “Congratulations to LinkLiving for your Investing in Volunteers Award achievement. As well as being recognised for your quality as an organisation the feedback in the assessment process from the volunteers themselves speaks highly of you. Well done.”
LinkLiving also presented each volunteer with a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ and a number of special awards were presented to individuals who had a particular success or achievement during the time they have volunteered with LinkLiving. Dean Allan, a volunteer with SmartLiving, won the award for ‘Volunteer of the Year’. Irene Blackburn, LinkLiving’s Volunteer Co-ordinator says: “It takes a special kind of person to turn a bad situation into something good. Dean has shown creativity and determination to become one of SmartLiving’s most effective Peer Educators helping many young people to avoid homelessness”.
