More celebrations for the SmartLiving Fife team
Published on November 25 2011
SmartLiving Fife was successful in two categories at the Celebrating Fife’s Voluntary Sector Awards 2011 on 23 November.
The SmartLiving project won the award for “Inspirational Organisation” and Dean Allan, one of the SmartLiving volunteers, won the award for “Young volunteer of the Year”.
The awards were organised by Volunteer Centre Fife and Voluntary Organisations North East Fife (VONEF) to recognise and celebrate the fantastic work achieved by Fife’s voluntary sector.
Six SmartLiving volunteers also received their Millennium Volunteers certificates for 50 hours volunteering. The Millennium Volunteers scheme is supported by the Scottish Government and helps with the volunteers’ personal development.
SmartLiving is run by LinkLiving (part of the Link group) and is backed by funding from Fife Council as well as the Link Group.
SmartLiving recruits young people aged 16 to 25 from across the Fife area and trains them to become Peer Educators who can deliver the message of how difficult maintaining a tenancy can be. These volunteers are young people who have themselves lived through the experience of living on their own and give up their time to deliver sessions to other youngsters across Fife. These sessions can cover anything from teaching young people how to prepare for living on their own to generally raising the issue of homelessness among young people.
Irene Blackburn, Volunteer Co-ordinator, said: “We are delighted that SmartLiving has been recognised as an inspirational organisation at these awards – it is a great tribute to the contribution of all the volunteers and staff and particular congratulations to Dean for being the Volunteer of the year”
