Tree-mendous effort from Link and Helix

Link Group Ltd and the Helix Trust recently joined forces to improve a local community facility by planting 420 trees with the help from 6th year pupils from Braes High School.
The trees were made available from a joint bid to the Woodland Trust which Link’s Energy Sustainability Officer Colin Reid and the Helix Trust’s Carbon Reduction Co-ordinator Ben Williams were able to secure.
The new trees were planted at Planet Soccer on the Little Kerse football fields on the outskirts of Grangemouth and included wild cherry, oak, birch, ash and hornbeam.
Volunteers from LinkLiving’s SmartLiving project also helped out as they provide Peer Education Sessions on housing, homelessness and tenancy sustainment at the high school.
Colin Reid said “Link is pleased to be able to support and encourage local pupils through environmental projects and promote participation in community action. Planting so many trees will not only enhance the local area but provide a lasting environmental benefit for the community. It is a testament to the pupils of Braes High School that so many volunteered”.
Said Ben: “I’m delighted the trees we’ve managed to secure have found such a good home and I’m sure they’ll thrive in their new surroundings. Planting trees also produces clear environmental benefits. For example, the 420 trees we’re planting at Little Kerse will occupy roughly an acre. Over the course of their lifetime these trees will absorb 400 tonnes of CO2. That’s the equivalent of running an average-sized public swimming pool for a year.”
