Sheltered housing - supporting independence

About Links Sheltered Housing Complexes

As they grow older, many people wish to continue living independently but with a bit of extra support.

We are commited to helping older people lead independent lives and operate 12 sheltered housing complexes across Scotland's central belt.

Each is staffed by a sheltered housing officer from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, whose presence provides tenants with peace of mind that they have someone to call on in an emergency. Each home is fitted with an alarm system so tenants in case of emergency outside daytime hours.

All of our sheltered housing is close to shops, GP surgeries and other local amenities and, for those who wish to take part, each complex has a buzzing social calendar!

Who can apply for Link sheltered housing?

The only qualifying condition that generally applies is that residents must be 60 years old or above.  In the case of a couple, one partner must be over 60. There is no upper age limit.

An exception to this rule may be made when someone under 60 would benefit significantly from sheltered support - for example, if they have a physical or mental disability.

Sheltered housing officers

Each complex has its own sheltered housing officer, who generally works Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and can provide tenants with the following support:

  • Helping new tenants settle in and explain how everything works
  • Making regular contact with residents
  • Dealing with emergencies or contacting family members, friends, a GP or the emergency service
  • Encouraging social activities at the complex
  • Reporting and monitoring repairs and maintenance
  • Assessing tenants' needs and liaising with families and statutory, voluntary and private agencies to ensure these needs are met
  • Referring tenants to a Linkwide advice officer who can offer help with welfare rights and benefits queries.

Link's sheltered housing does not replace any current or future need a tenant may have for 'care' services such as home-help, meals on wheels, bathing assistance or help given by a district nurse or other medical practitioners.  We are unable to administer medication to tenants.
