Link in Digital 100 list

Link has been included in the 2015 Digital Leaders 100 list for its work in improving digital inclusion, employability and financial capability in its tenants.

The 2015 Digital Leaders 100 list honours the highest digital achievements from across the UK’s public, private and non-profit sectors, celebrating individuals and organisations who are leveraging digital to transform the UK’s public services and its social and economic opportunities.

Shortlisted in two categories

Link has been included in two categories ‘Best Digital Inclusion Product or Service’ for its Laptop Loan Scheme and in the ‘Best Digital Skills Product or Service’ for its City & Guilds Basic ICT Online Course.

The laptop loan scheme takes relatively old, but serviceable, Link laptops, which were due to be recycled and reconfigured, and loans them to tenants who want to ‘try before buying’ or don’t have the finances to buy one themselves. As well as the laptop, tenants receive a laptop bag, a mouse, memory stick and guidelines on how to ‘get started’. More recently - and responding to feedback from older tenants and those with a disability - Link supplemented its stock of loan IT equipment by acquiring a number of tablet devices. The scheme has provided a low cost, sustainable solution to providing tenants with equipment and encourages the development of computer skills.

The City & Guilds Basic ICT Online Course provided the chance for 40 Link tenants (and others from partner housing associations) to attend a 13 week course delivered by Be Inspired which covered basic computer skills such as setting up email accounts online. Each person who completed the course got a qualification and took ownership of their training laptop so they can continue to advance their skills using their own equipment. In response to demand, Link now has plans to replicate the City and Guilds ICT Course.

Great recognition

Link Group Chief Executive Craig Sanderson said: “We are delighted to have made the Digital Leaders 100 list as this recognises our commitment to helping our tenants access employment, advice, information, support and services online.”
