Making a difference
Mrs Mathew was one of the first people to be helped by the Help to Adapt scheme - find out how it has helped her to adapt her home to make sure it is suitable for her now and in the future.
Mrs Mathew lives in a double storey, mid-terrace property that has been the family home for 45 years. She was finding it more difficult to step in and out of the bath and having had falls, Mrs Mathew was concerned about falling in the bathroom.
Helping people remain in control
Mrs Mathew was aware she did not meet the criteria for an adaptation through her local authority but was keen to remain in control and plan ahead so contacted Help to Adapt.
Mrs Mathew wanted to remain independent with showering and reduce the risk of falls. The Help to Adapt Housing Occupational Therapist recommended a bathroom adaptation to provide wet floor shower facilities. She also confirmed that the property is suitable for further adaptation (Stairlift) in the future if Mrs Mathew requires this.
Helping people every step of the way
The Help to Adapt team assisted Mrs Mathew to choose her adaptation design, fixtures and fittings and organised the work to be carried out by the procured contractors L&D Services.
With the new bathroom installed, Mrs Mathew was delighted with both the contractors and the Help to Adapt scheme and is happy to be able to continue living independently in her own home.
