Access Ownership

Access Ownership helps people with disabilities purchase a home that meets their needs under a similar arrangement to shared ownership.

The scheme, which is managed by Horizon Housing Association, is open to people with any disability, including physical impairment, learning difficulties or mental health support needs, and is available to those who are looking to buy a more suitable home and to those who own a property but need to reduce their financial commitments.

Under the scheme, you own a share (between 25 and 75%) in a property and Horizon owns the rest. You then pay an occupancy charge to Horizon on the remainder.

How does Access Ownership work?

To be considered for the scheme:

you or a member of your household should have a disability and receive Disability Living Allowance (DLA); and
you need to move to a home that is more suitable for your needs as a disabled person than where you live now; or
you are at risk of having to move out of a home that is suitable for your needs as a disabled person.

The Access Ownership scheme is operated by Horizon without any government subsidy. A limited fund is agreed each year from Horizon’s own resources. Once you are accepted for the scheme, purchases proceed on a first come, first served basis.
